Pioneering roots…

Lecico has come a long way since its modest beginnings as a small Lebanese factory in the late 1950s. Over the past years, the Company has grown into one of the largest sanitary ware manufacturers in the world.

  1. Tawfiq Gargour & Fils (TGF) was established in 1928 in Jaffa, by the late Tawfiq Gargour joined later by his four sons: Nicolas, Habib, John and Allenby 

  2. Trade was done on the basis of barter. This resulted in some curious exchanges. The very first Mercedes to be shipped to the east was worth 5,000 cases of Jaffa oranges

  3. Lecico was founded in Lebanon by the Gargour family and Joseph Ghorra, a family friend linked by bonds of mutual respect and trust.

  4. Sanitaryware production starts in Lebanon.

  5. Lecico was incorporated in Egypt.

  6. Sanitary ware and tile production began at the new factory “Lecico Egypt” in Khorshid, Egypt.

  7. Trading subsidiaries established in the UK (Lecico PLC) and France (Lecico France)

  8. Sanitec, a leading manufacturer of sanitary ware in Europe, becomes a shareholder in Lecico.

  9. Lecico awarded the International Management System Standard (ISO9001), National Dutch Certification (KIWA) and National French Certification (NF)

  10. Sanitary ware production began at the new factory “Lecico for Ceramic” in Borg El Arab, Egypt.

  11. Sanitary ware production began at the new factory “European Ceramics” in Borg El Arab, Egypt.

  12. Brassware production began at the new factory “Sarrdesign” in Borg El Arab, Egypt.

  13. Tile production began at the new factory “International Ceramics” in Borg El Arab, Egypt.

  14. Lecico continues to be one of the largest ceramics and sanitary ware manufacturers in the world.
